Adriana Norris
Bio
Adriana Norris is a passionate and driven scientist currently pursuing her PhD in Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. Her undergraduate research was focused on probing loggerhead nesting sands for fungal pathogens, and she has since gone on to conduct metabolism research using a novel mouse model.
Adriana's thesis work has been focused on exploring the metabolic roles of two lipid flippases, ATP10A and ATP10D. Her lab used yeast as a model organism for over 25 years, and Adriana was the first graduate student to use mice as a model organism. By taking on this exciting challenge, she had the opportunity to build and facilitate new collaborations as well as become an independent scientist.
During her time in graduate school, Adriana made it a priority to build her science communication skills. She presented her work at several conferences, created a YouTube channel to make academia more accessible to people who don't have academic backgrounds, attended and then organized ComSciCon-ATL, and applied for and was accepted as a member of the ASBMB Science Outreach and Communication Committee. She has also earned accolades for her research efforts and presentations.
In addition to her scientific expertise, Adriana is an experienced leader, having served as Vice President and then President of her department's Graduate Student Association.
Adriana will be finishing her PhD in the fall of 2023 and is excited to explore career opportunities that allow her to continue to communicate scientific topics through various mediums, including oral presentations and written methods. Her skills and expertise make her a valuable asset to any organization, and she looks forward to making meaningful and lasting contributions.
